004: Jackie Norman, former dairy & beef farmer turned vegan, on effective strategies for animal advocates

In this special episode of the Conversations with Vegan Women Leaders podcast, we’re featuring a talk from the 2020 VegFestUK Summerfest Online event, by Jackie Norman, a former beef and dairy farmer from New Zealand.

Jackie Norman headshot Jackie spent 18 years working at various beef and dairy farms before becoming vegan in 2017.

Since then she’s used her extensive knowledge and experience to speak out about the industries, including writing for various media outlets and for global non-profit organisation Vegan FTA, where she currently works as an interviewer and researcher.

In the first part of this talk, Jackie shares her experiences and the emotions she felt towards the cows and their babies during her time in these industries.

In the second part of the talk, she shares her strategies for vegan and animal rights activists on how to speak to those still working in animal agriculture.

This is a talk like no other. It’s heartfelt, authentic, moving and powerful.

It offers a whole new perspective on how to communicate with animal-based farmers and a reminder not to make assumptions about people, even when they’re doing something you disagree with.
